3 Tips for Combating Mood Swings
[
Hello lovelies, today I am sharing a post about tips regarding mood regulation. During the peak of my adolescence I struggled a lot with mood regulation. Often, it would cause harm to not only my mental health, but also my relationships. I would get angry easily and feel unmotivated, I also found myself blaming others frequently and pushing those I cherish away. But hey, we've all been there, as growing girls we are constantly having hormonal imbalances that can affect our moods. Dont worry its very normal, and as a full-fledged adult woman (lol im 18). I can confidently say the grass is greener on the other side, it absolutely gets better. Although of course we'll have our days of getting upset and maybe doing some things we aren't proud of, it's okay. Every mistake you make is a lesson for your future self, don't be too hard on yourself. Make adjustments, talk it out with your loved ones and friends and consider implementing these tips I'd like to share with you guys today. After all, my goal is to spread information I wish I would've known when I was a bit younger.
Tip #1 Write down your thoughts Make a journal, write it in your notes, even write it on a random napkin if you have to. Writing down how you feel is an amazing habit to have to help regulate your emotions. It can instantly help you feel lighter, see situations more logically and prevent escalating situations. Personally, during high school I kept a journal where I would write about my emotional turmoil, it really helped me calm down and keep a clear head. I would also recommend writing your thoughts down first before talking to a peer about said issues as it can prevent saying things you might've not actually meant. Tip #2 Get some fresh air Although humans are very advanced we cannot omit the fact that our bodies crave nature. Getting some sun increases your vitamin D intake which can improve mood, fresh air contains higher oxygen levels thus improving energy levels and it can seriously change the outlook on whatever situation is at hand. Coming from Winnipeg I have struggled with this one a bit as it is horrendous to go outside for half the year. Although at last when I made a proper effort to bundle up and enjoy the great outdoors, I saw improvement in my mood and my focus. Even just starting off with a 5 min walk can make a huge difference. Tip #3 Adequate sleep Sleep is so important for women. It's quite literally crucial for mood regulation. Sleep is when your body can heal, not only physically but also mentally. I know this seems like an obvious one but I know sometimes it can be hard to get a good night's rest. Some ways that helped me sleep well during school were'
- Sleeping in a cold environment, your body temperature cools down when you sleep, being in a cold environment can help you fall asleep faster, sleep more deeply and promote melatonin production.
- Switching out bright white lights for warm lit lamps to encompass a more soothing environment. Using dim lights can help your body sync up with its circadian rhythm. I also recommend putting your phone on night mode, to avoid the harsh bright white lights at night time.
- Waking up early, I know this is a hard one but having time to yourself in the morning is insanely helpful when it comes to emotional regulation. It prevents you from going to school or work cranky and can give you some quality time. I like to make a nice hot cup of tea and do some stretches.
