Hygiene Tips
Hey girlies! Just wanted to talk about some hygiene tips that my gynaecologist shared with me that you may or may not already know.
- Panty liners are not more hygienic, they actually can become the opposite. There is a common misconception that wearing panty liners are more hygienic then not but they can actually cause more harm than good. Prolonged wear can promote the growth of bacterias that lead to infection. Many times cheaply made liners are unbreathable and trap moisture which can disrupt ph levels as well. They are also wasteful, it's recommended that you change your liner every 4-6 hours. In a month you'd use around 100 liners!
- Wearing fancy underwear daily is not healthy. I wishhhh someone told me this when I was younger but your underwear actually matters so much. I was blindly by all the pretty underwear and that caused me so much irritation. I don't know if it's my prefrontal lobe developing but my only concern when buying underwear now is the material and if it's loose and comfortable. But trust me girls it makes all the difference, also lacy underwear's and thongs can promote infection and irritation because they are often made out of unbreathable materials and cause chafing. Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton and looser styles.
- Staying hydrated is essential in having healthy discharge! Eating probiotic foods also support this function, foods like yogurt and kefir are great. These foods contain healthy bacteria that help fight infections.
- Also don't be afraid to speak up about your issues at your gyne! They are not there to judge they are looking to help find you a solution. Please do not hesitate if something is bothering you even if you may think it's taboo or unhygienic.
